We are committed to supplying interesting, inexpensive and environmentally responsible alternatives to mainstream art and craft supplies. Mail-ordered and packed into large cardboard barrels, these mixed materials are great for schools, kindergartens, OSHC and childcare centres.
We now have materials barrels, activity barrels and themed barrels available! Select from our new comprehensive list, or tailor one to suit your specific project or subject area.
We also mail smaller packages for those who would like a particular item but cannot get to our warehouse.

Age groups & skill levels
We are aware that when manipulating and using materials, skill level is most commonly determined by age. Therefore we have supplied a suggested age bracket to barrels that require particular skill levels to achieve most tasks independently. When packing your order we consider your age group and aim to pack accordingly. Please contact us if wish to discuss further options or adapt a barrel to your age group.
Multihesive glue
If you are looking for a suitable glue for your project Reverse Garbage uses Mulithesive and you can now add it into your barrel order. Please find it in the ordering section for mail order on the website. Available in small (250ml) for $9.95 or medium (500ml) for $15.95. At Reverse Garbage our selection of available materials is constantly changing and our mail order barrels will be packed accordingly. If however you wish to request your barrel to be packed with something you have already sighted or provide materials for a specific project please contact our Mail Order Coordinator.
Materials Barrels
Material barrels provide a substantial quantity of ‘like’ type materials. They allow budding creatives to get in deep and explore the qualities and properties of particular groups of materials and how they can be used or manipulated creatively for fun and learning.
Information sheets included in the barrels will cover, creative re-use, environmental information, as well as a Basic Ideas Sheet that shares ideas on projects and activities that are suited to your specific barrels contents.
BAGGABLE – Have you heard about our famous baggable aisle? It is full of useful left overs, colourful scraps, bits of everything, plastic, paper, fabrics and more! All at a bargain price! All ages - medium only
MYSTERY – Get a barrel of mixed materials to reuse creatively! All ages - small and medium
PAPER AND CARD – Origami, cut and collage, fold, punch and strip your way through a pulp wonderland. All ages - small and medium
TEXTILES – Sew, cut, strip, staple, glue and tie your way through a range of textile remnants. All ages - small and medium
RUBBER AND FOAM – Squish, stamp, shape and join your way through all projects rubber and foam. All ages - small and medium
TIMBER AND FIBRES – Build, chop, topple, and arrange your way through various timber and fibre based craft materials. All ages - medium only
NATURAL MATERIALS – Explore a range of naturally occurring materials that are either in a raw state or have been produced from natural resources. All ages - small and medium
MANUFACTURED MATERIALS - Explore a wide selection all things synthetic: from rigid and soft plastics, to vinyl fabric and different types of foams. All ages - small and medium
Activity Barrels
Activity barrels focus on providing materials and instructions on how to complete the chosen activity.
Information sheets included in the barrels will cover, creative re-use, environmental information, as well as a n Activity Sheet outlining how to complete the barrels activity with the materials provided.
PRINTING – Experience basic printing techniques using a range of re-purposed materials. Please note: printing medium ie paint not included in barrel. Prep to secondary school - small and medium
COLLAGE – Take humble, but unusual materials and transform them into wonderful collage pictures. Childcare to secondary school - small and medium
WEAVING – Create and co-ordinate colours and textures to make interesting weaving pieces. Prep to secondary school - small and medium
SOFT SCULPTURE – Manipulate soft materials to create sculpture including small toys, pillows or decorations. Prep to secondary school - small and medium
CONSTRUCTION – Enter the world of construction where things can literally be ‘put-together’. Test and excite your participants with the qualities of 3D creation. Childcare to secondary school - small and medium
Themed Barrels
Have fun delving into popular themes to create unique and wonderful objects and pieces.
Information sheets included in the barrels will cover, creative re-use, environmental information, as well as an Instruction Sheet outlining how to complete the barrels themed project with the materials provided.

We can issue invoices to schools and kindergartens and businesses when the order is dispatched. All other orders must be paid by direct deposit or credit card over the phone prior to dispatch.
