Practical and creative workshops in schools and at festivals

We conduct practical and creative workshops in schools and at festivals for people of any age.  We work with you to design these to fit in with your program.  We also run professional development workshops for teachers. 

Art from junk

We teach chidren and young people to use salvaged materials to make and decorate useful items.  For example, they could make musical instruments, finger puppets, pencil holders, desk tidies, jewellery or cards.  We work with students on creative projects such as wearable art, assemblage, making fantasy animals, collage, printmaking, costumes or masks. 

Environmental and social sustainability

We run workshops in schools for teachers or students on sustainability issues such as consumption, waste, consensus decision-making and co-operatives.

Costs

We charge $50 per hour for workshop and travelling time to run a workshop at your school.  Materials and transport are extra. 

A typical two-hour junk art workshop for

25 - 50 students in a Brisbane school costs

$270 - $370 including materials and transport, depending on the materials you would like us to bring.  If we need to bring a second Reverse Garbage staff member, this costs an extra $50 per hour.

Excursions to the Reverse Garbage warehouse

A visit to the Reverse Garbage warehouse is like an archeological exploration into our consumer society. The warehouse hosts an inspiring collection of low-cost, interesting materials.

A Reverse Garbage staff member is available to do a talk about waste and what we do for schools, pre-schools and other community organisations.

Class sets of materials

Because we know how busy teachers can be, we have put together creative class sets of project materials, mainly suitable for primary school classes.  Each set contains enough materials for 32 students. 

We are developing new sets each month.  So far, we have class sets for making fridge magnets, pendants, finger puppets and wooden pictures.  Prices range from $5 - $10 so that makes it very inexpensive for a whole class activity.

School and kindy packs

We have primary shcool and kindy packs which we can send to you, anywhere in Queensland, for $70 including postage and handling.  We pack a good range of interesting materials into one of our barrels so that you also receive a great container for children to decorate,  Packs must be pre-paid either by cheque or by credit card over the phone.  Please phone Lyn Graham on 07 3844 9744 if you would like further information.
