Full day workshops for secondary schools
As well as our shorter workshops, Reverse Garbage now offers full-day workshops to secondary schools, to give students more time to develop their ideas and designs and to analyse the final outcomes of the work they produce. Workshops currently offered include Wearable Art and IT Junk Sculpture.
Wearable Art
Take art off the walls and adorn the body in wonderfully unique ways. In this workshop, students will design, develop and resolve ideas on sustainability, consumption and waste.
Students will explore the re-use potential and tactile qualities of unconventional media such as wire, plastic, paper, cotton, leather, rubber and timber.
IT Junk Sculpture
While difficult to track, it is estimated that Australians throw away between 1.5 and 3 million IT items, including monitors, scanners, printers and other peripherals each year.
Students will develop ideas based on the growth of E-waste and how this relates to the natural and built environment. Using a range of computer components, each student will create an IT junk sculpture, conveying meaning and explaining their choices.
The Program
Session 1 – Students will explore and design around the issues of waste and sustainability.
Session 2 – Students will make and modify their artwork with the use of various tools including sewing machines, glue guns and cordless drills.
Session 3 – Students will complete their work and analyse it.
