Lizard and tea caddy"I work as a blacksmith and occasional jewellery maker. These occupations allow me to fulfill some philosophical ideals about life and my impacts on the world. I choose to utilize many recycled elements in the designs which must have both practical and utilitarian purpose to make it into the world. Jewellery is an extension of my skills in the fiery world of the forge, the hammering of softer, more forgiving metals to create little pictures of the natural world around us. It is a rest from the elemental energy of iron and fire, although both crafts share some techniques.

I wish to make a large and positive difference to the world but reality will probably dictate that I hardly make a dent in the scheme of things, so perhaps by salvaging what others discard and turning these pieces of metal, stone and wood into intrinsically precious things, I am at least bringing a small amount of wonder, happiness and satisfaction to the souls of those lovely people who choose my work. Perhaps I will one day be venerable and wise enough to pass on the old crafts to someone younger who will pass them on to someone else and on and on and..."
